Majok Necklace
Made in: Haiti
Artisan Group: 2nd Story Goods
This handmade Majok Necklace can be your new everyday staple; the gold chain with white-gray beads means this can go with literally anything! Hand-dyed, locally-sourced majok seed beads hint at the natural beauty of Haiti, while the short adjustable chain means it can hang at the perfect length with each outfit.
Also known as “Job’s Tears,” majok beads are seeds that grow in Haiti with a natural hole running through the middle, ideal for crafting jewelry. Commonly used by Mother Teresa to make rosaries, they are one of Haiti’s best organic resources.
All of the jewelry made by 2nd Story Goods incorporates upcycled and/or local materials. This reflects their values of positively impacting the earth and the local economy of Haiti, as well as the redemption of giving old things a second story. Their jewelry team has become experts in their craft since 2011 when they started out teaching the skills, crowded together on children’s school benches in Jubilee, Haiti.
