Love Takes Flight
FMSC food partner Love Takes Root is an all-volunteer grassroots organization founded in 2010 with a mission to cultivate the future of children in Haiti. They operate the La Concorde school and orphanage in Jacmel, Haiti, which provides shelter, food, clothing, healthcare and K-12 education to 345 children. In 2020, they developed the Love Takes Flight program to support teens transitioning into adulthood and enable them to become productive Haitian citizens with bright futures. It is their hope that these children will not just live and get by, but through their education, a strong sense of right and wrong, and an understanding of the importance of community, that they will become leaders in Jacmel and Haiti.
Meet the Artisans
Jean
Jean is a Love Takes Flight artisan who makes beautiful jewelry and ornaments from sea glass he collects that has washed ashore on the beaches of Haiti.
He and his wife are both deaf and they have one young daughter who interprets for her parents. Jean finds joy in his work and hopes to mentor and teach the older students at the La Concorde orphanage who are interested in learning the craft.
