Threads of Hope
Threads of Hope began as a way to assist economically oppressed families living in impoverished areas throughout the Philippines. Today, more than 350 artisans make colorful thread bracelets which they sell in order to provide a sustainable income for their families. To some, the artisan’s circumstances might appear to offer little hope for a bright future; however, through the sales of their handmade items, artisans are able to generate a sustainable income which fosters a new sense of hope within their family and their community. That hope shines bright with each bracelet purchase!
Meet the Artisans
Teresa
Teresa is 17 years old and one of 10 children in her family. In 2009, her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. In order to cover her medical needs, Teresa’s family had to sell their land and home. They began making bracelets and using the income to pay for food and medicine. Before they were separated by their work. Today, the family makes bracelets as their main source of income and the children are able to stay in school.
